How Does the NFT System Work?

  1. Basic Setup:

  • Plants are placed in channels or troughs, typically made of PVC or other waterproof materials.
  • The channels are slightly sloped to allow a thin film of nutrient solution to flow from one end to the other.
  • The roots of the plants are suspended in the channel, with the tips touching the nutrient film.

       2. Nutrient Solution:

  • A water-based solution containing essential nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, etc.) is pumped from a reservoir into the channels.
  • The solution flows over the roots, providing them with water, oxygen, and nutrients.

       3. Recirculation:

  • After flowing through the channels, the nutrient solution is collected at the lower end and returned to the reservoir.
  • The solution is then recirculated, creating a continuous loop.

       4. Oxygenation:

  • The thin film of water ensures that the roots have access to both nutrients and oxygen, which is critical for healthy plant growth.
